HyperBina - Henan Institutional Campus

Sited within the productive campus landscape terraces of the Henan Province Campus master plan, the Henan Institutional Campus functions as the programmatic and formal anchors amidst the landscape terrain. The expressed functional hierarchy and existing structural systems are maintained as a contextual framework for manifesting a resilient façade strategies.

Architectural design focuses on strategic rehabilitation of three existing buildings and their structural systems: a dormitory conversion to a hotel, a multifunctional center and a dining hall. Three buildings act as combined yet discrete elements to interact with each other and activate the partially enclosed productive landscape and social open space. Three design ideas exploit different concepts that focuses respectively on wrapping, layering and volumetric interlocking to accommodate various building programs and existing structural systems.
